Ohio Core HB 119 Math and Biology Teacher Preparation

The Jefferson County ESC and Franciscan University of Steubenville are seeking qualified
candidates to become part of one of two cohorts of eight members that will participate in a 24
semester hour program that culminates in licensure as a Mathematics or Biology teacher. The
program is funded by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Board of Regents.
The cohorts will participate in an extensive eight course program from September 2008 through
August 2009 enabling participants to be licensed to teach Mathematics or Biology in 2009-2010.

Applicants must be
Currently licensed high school teachers, including substitutes, who wish to add Math or Biology
validation
- or -
Mid-career professionals holding a baccalaureate degree who wish to become Math or Biology
teachers.

Program Features Include:

• Course content determined to best suit the needs of selected cohort members
• Courses offered after the normal workday and on weekends
• Tuition and fees paid by a grant received by the Jefferson County ESC
• Mentoring support/assistance provided throughout the program
• Preparation seminars for PRAXIS II test(s) embedded in the program

• Cost of books responsibility of participants
• Additional hours leading to a Master of Science Degree may be completed at the student’s expense.
